JP Concerts is a community music program of St. John's Episcopal Church in Jamaica Plain managed by resident performing arts company, Open Theatre Project. The St. John’s sanctuary is a beautiful venue with surround-sound acoustics and an ideal location in the heart of Jamaica Plain. Performances to date have covered a broad range, including multi-media theatrical presentations, wind, keyboard, string recitals, clarinet quartets along with Japanese flute and vocals. These concerts showcase musicians ranging from local talent to world-renowned performers. We are also the home venue for A FAR CRY, Jamaica Plain’s very own self-directed chamber orchestra.

Works from the Ottoman court tradition, dance forms and songs in the makam (modal) tradition, set to varying cycles of percussion. Sets typically begin and end with taksim (improvisation) either with a soloist or the entire group. At other times, improvisation occurs spontaneously over an ostinato, within or between pieces.
